Dental Crowns in Aubrey

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is basically a cover or cap for a damaged tooth. It can be made with porcelain, ceramic and metal depending on the required strength and aesthetics. They are custom made in labs and then bonded to your teeth.

When would I need a crown?

There are many reasons a patient might need a crown. Sometimes, a crown is used when a tooth has decayed enough to weaken the overall structure of the tooth. To prevent further decay or fracture, a crown can be placed which can help the tooth hold its shape and ability to chew.

Crowns are also used as a cap for replacing missing teeth in both bridges and dental implants. They are also used to cover teeth that have had root canal procedures done.

Because crowns are designed to match the shade and shape of your surrounding teeth, sometimes crowns can be placed for cosmetic reasons as well.

What is the process of getting a crown like?

Dr. Caroline Tran will also walk you through your exact procedure during your visit but the general process of getting a crown usually starts with an impression of your teeth. These impressions, along with a guide for the color of your teeth, will be sent to a lab where the crown will be made for you. While waiting for the crown to be made, a temporary crown will be placed which is made to be removed after a short time.

On your second visit, the temporary crown will be removed and the permanent crown will be cemented. Please give us a call if your tooth becomes sensitive!
